Flu Shots in Sept, Then H1N1 Shots

Minneapolis - With the threat of the H1N1 virus, people are already preparing for the regular flu season. People usually start to get flu shots in October or November. But because of the H1N1 virus, health experts want you to roll up your sleeve sooner than you might think. At the Minnesota Visiting Nurses Agency, the first batch of seasonal flu vaccines just arrived about a month earlier than normal. Health officials want people to get their regular flu shots in September of this year. And then get an H1N1 shot when that vaccine becomes available in late October or early November, followed by a booster a few weeks later.
Health experts say people under 65 should get the H1N1 shots, especially pregnant women and children and people with chronic lung disease. The Visiting Nurse Agency has hired an extra 100 nurses. And has ordered 30,000 extra regular flu shots.
